Travel diary: first day in New York

Maria Eduarda Rodrigues Nepomuceno  9º B

I’m in New York. It is a cold autumn day. I’m 17. I will stay here for 1 year. I’m being funded by the scholarship of EF Academy. My godmother and I are in the apartament at West 66Th Street, that is next to Central Park. Today was a very fun day. We visited some places, such as: the Statue of Liberty, the Museum September 11 and the Central Park itself.

First, I went to the Statue of Liberty. As I expected, it was full of people. Lost of people taking pictures and hanving fun. I was particularly dissapointed with the size. I thought it was bigger.

Coming out of there, we went to the Museum September 11. The museum itseff was in the basement and had a very special but sad air. There, I could see parts of the pillars of the Twin Towers and other objects that gave meaning to the event, such as a burned-out ambulance, destroyed telephone booths and helmets left by firefighter. I felt like I was witnessing the attack. It was horrible.

After seeing all this, when we were leaving we decided to stop by Central Park. We saw many animals: squirrels, birds and turtles. I fell in love with the sunset, which was unforgettable. We walked a little more and, finally, arrived at the apartment to rest. What can I say about today? I saw so many things... I managed to speak a little english and I had a lot of fun! Tomorrow, my classes will start and I hope everything goes well. Good night!
