My trip

Laura Aguiar de Andrade-8A

I’m in NY, at the Manhattan borough. Today is my first day here and I’m already loving it. I came here to study English. So I can teach other people in Brazil. Also, so I can speak better English. I came here through a lottery I attended, where me and 10 other people went to different cities. I came here in winter, because it was when people raffled, and it was very lucky of me, because here is very beautiful at this time of the year. I’m 18 years old. I will stay here for 3 weeks, because this is the duration of my course and it will be enough to see a lot of things in NY. I already went to the Rockefeller Center, to Times Square and I also saw the Statue of Liberty.

The first place I visited was the Rockefeller Center. As soon as I arrived I went straight to Chanel Garden, which is a beautiful addition to the Rockefeller Center area. The decor is changed according to holidays and seasons. Soon after, I saw the golden statue of Prometheus, which is in a water source of the Lower Plaza. I found it very interesting, because it shows the Titan Greek bringing fire to mankind. Just above it, you can   see several flags that crack the courtyard . They represent the countries that are part of the United Nations as well as the states and territory of the United States. Just above the Prometheus statue, you can also see another statue: the Wisdom sculpture,  which is also very beautiful and different. There are also several restaurants. I went to a restaurant called "Chloe", which has great cuisine. I also went to the Top of the Rock observatory.

The second place I went to was Times Square, which is a crossroads of two major avenues in the city of NY. But, it can’t be treated as a simple corner. It has been recently modified to receive a larger flux of tourists. There, you can see famous brand stores, TV studios and many other wonderful things. I was able to buy several things, including bags to put it all in and take home with me!

Finally, I went to see the wonderful sunset on Liberty Island, with a splendid view of the top of the Statue of Liberty. Imagine how cool was that!  My day was wonderful! I loved all the places I went to. I felt marvellous at all these famous landscapes.

So, this was my first day here. Now, I’m going to sleep. Tomorrow I will see several other places, and it will be my first day of school. Good evening!
