My dream trip in South Dakota

Yasmin Saccá - 1°D

I arrived in Keystone, South Dakota on January 20th, 2024, at age 21. I came to make a tourist exchange to know the country and to study English with others exchangers of my agency. I visited three places today: The Mount Rushmore, The Mammoth Site in Hot Springs and The Badlands National Park. I always dreamed of going to this places.

I've always dreamed of going to Mount Rushmore, mainly because I wanted to know more and personally experience the history of that place that is so North American. I went in the morning, when the sun was rising, so I could see the most beautiful landscape in the most beautiful time of the day. The breeze was gentle and, dispite being winter the sun was streaming through the montain and lighting the faces of four presidents: George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt and Abraham Lincoln. It was a special visit for me.

In 2nd place, I went to the Mammoth Site in Hot Springs to see the fossils that for so many years are intact in that place. To think that they survived so long so they could become history is incredible. As the place is closed, it was a little stuffy, but it was not something that messed up my trip. The Mammoth fossils were very cool and well preserved. It was a very amazing and happy experience.

The 3rd place I went today was The Badlands National Park because where I live in Brazil does not have such parks. I decided to visit it because I love nature. The breeze was a little strong but the visit was not unpleasant. There were many trees but they were all covered with snow because it was winter. I heard, in summer, there was a garden with beautiful flowers there, but there was only snow now. I guess I did not choose a good time to visit a park, but the white snow is also a beautiful thing to see. I learned that in this park there is the largest protected prairie of the United States. It was a really cool and fun time. I took several photos with the snow and the trees.

Well, my first visit to the United States is being amazing! It could not be better! I went everywere I ever dreamed about going. I did many activities and I heard incredible stories. I spoke English and took several photos, which I will keep for the rest of my life. I hope to go to more tourist places and find out more about other beautiful and cool places in the United States.
