Filipe Martins Saccá 8-A
Hi, my name is Filipe. I am 17 years old and I am currently in New York. I was able to come here through an English school that gave me a scholarship, through which I had the chance to come to New York. I am here in the United States to study and understand better English. I will stay for 4 years, studying. I am with collegues. In New York, the season is winter and it is so cold! It will by my first time seeing snow. I am happy! Obviously, I will not stay here just to study, I am going to have fun and see new places. We visited 3 places here in New York, today. First, we visited Central Park. Then, Chinatown. Finally, we I went to one of the main spots of New York: the Statue of Liberty.
We first went to Central Park. We saw what the places there were like. They are incredible. I went for a ride on the ice skates. Then, it was time to go to Chinatown to eat an oriental food and get to know the place.
Chinatown and Chinese culture is really cool. They can maintain their culture and this is impressive! In Chinatown, they make you feel you are somewhere eles! When you are in Chinatown, you hear a lot of the Chinese language and observe the signs which are written in Chinese instead of English. It was really nice to be in Chinatown.
After that, we went to the Statue of Liberty. But to get there, we needed to buy tickets and get a boat. The Statue of Liberty sits on an island and, since it’s winter, it's hard to get there. But as my curiosity is greater than the cold, I persisted. It was very cool and there was great a great entrance and lots of police escorts. To climb to the crown, you have a lot of stairs to face. The larger set of stairs take you to the bottom of the statue and it’s a beautiful sight.
Now, I will go to school because I study at night. Then, I’ll go back to the school dorms. Soon, I live with my friends in the house they rented. Today was a very fun day! I met 3 new places and ate the food from another country! Today was really cool! I hope one day you will come here and get to know this incredible city. This was my first day in New York. Bye!
